Many cribs, or cots no longer meet today’s modern standards for quality and safety. Many years of research has lead to the current construction methods of baby cribs. Older cribs may pose dangers for your infant. A baby’s limbs can easily become trapped between the bars of a baby crib that does not follow current guidelines. The bars need to be at least two-and-a-half inches apart, to give assurance that the baby does not get his or her arms or legs, stuck in between them during the night. |
Baby Crib bedding could be a problem!
The Latest and most current research on baby cribs, involves the baby crib bedding. There are so many very attractive crib sets that include blankets, pillows and bumpers. Although there is a need to keep baby warm at night, blankets and bumpers can pose a risk of suffocation. The baby can easily become entangled in his blanket, possibly obstructing his airway. The crib’s pillow can be dangerous as well, if the baby movements causes him to wind up under it during the night.
Baby crib bumpers help give protection to the baby from getting stuck between the crib’s bars and they are designed with an extra soft filling that insures that the baby will be cushioned if he bangs against his crib. However, bumpers need to be very securely fastened and held in place, in order to insure the ultimate safety. Just like pillows and blankets, bumpers can pose a suffocation hazard if the baby becomes entangled in them.
Attractive blankets and pillows can be great for decoration, but they should be removed at babies bed-time. Bumpers should be fastened properly and double-checked at each and every bedtime each night. During colder nights, parents put their babies in wearable blankets that are formed around the baby. There is no risk of the baby becoming entangled in such a wearable blanket. It is however very important that parents check on the baby during the night to make sure that he doesn’t get overheated when wearing these very warm blankets.
With a few little steps and some forethought, parents can insure safety with their baby’s crib bedding. However, it is important that they remember to avoid using older baby cribs. Cribs may well be ones handed down from generation to generation, but older cribs will almost certainly NOT meet today’s safety standards. They often come to you without assembly instructions and are missing a minor parts or details this could be disastrous. In order to assure your baby’s safety in a crib, it is very important to consider turning down the second hand offers from your friends and family and buy new. The investment will be well worth the peace of mind, in knowing that the baby crib you chose is really safe and secure.
