Baby Safety Reins

Baby Leash, a restriction or a safety measure?

OK, so some people just do not like 'restraints' in the form of baby leashes! 'Dirty looks', from people who don't know why I use a baby leash! When on my last vacation, I well remember that I got some of the rudest of glares from onlookers. The worst outward sign I received was from an older lady, who grimaced and shook her head in an obvious indication of her disapproval. Apparently, she, and others had been offended by the fact that my toddling toddler, was walking with me attached by a 'baby leash'.

I didn't consider that it was their right to pass judgment, especially as some of the people 'pulling faces' were obviously a long way away from remembering what it was like to have the responsibility of the care for a baby.

I was once one who frowned on the use of a baby leash! Perhaps the name 'baby leash' has an implication connected to a 'dog leash'! In Britain the name 'Baby reins', is more commonly used, with perhaps less of a stigma attached to the actual equipment name.

As I already mentioned, I myself used to be one of those people who disapproved and glared at parents who used a 'baby leash' attached to their child. I thought it was a 'horrible restraint'. Then, I became a parent and found just how easily and quickly your infant toddler can simply disappear from sight. Not only is it possible for little children to wander off in a split second, but it is also a possibility for someone to just grab them and flee as well.

Once I actually became a parent, I found I couldn't enjoy taking my child shopping as much as I once could have. I was so pre-occupied in constantly making sure that she was within my reach, at all times and making myself aware of people around me as well. I found that I was spending most of my time being concerned and paranoid rather than simply shopping. I finally 'saw the light' when I was out shopping in a baby store one morning when I saw a really rather attractive 'baby leash'.

I remembered back on how I'd felt about seeing parents using them and I was shocked at the fact that I was now even contemplating buying one myself. But,a few minutes later, I was standing in line with my baby leash, purchase, in my hand. I wasn't sure if I should be upset with myself or not?

Shopping far more safe with your baby leash.

It was almost embarrassing for me to use the baby leash for the first time, but my sister and I decided we should run some errands and we would see exactly how my daughter would react to the baby leash. Surprisingly, it hardly affected her and she enjoyed the walking rather than being in a baby stroller, but she probably herself felt more secure being attached to me. It probably did annoy some onlookers but I had already convinced myself that if they had a problem with my child's safety, then that was their problem.

My daughter actually enjoyed the baby leash, because it was something to hang onto that was attached to me. This gave her a sense of security, she didn't seem to be as 'clingy', as she was at other times. I became much more accomplished, because I knew that she would not be able to wander as far as she had previously. The baby leash was attractive and most importantly 'safe' for us both.

Have no regrets on using a baby leash for your child's security!

It provided her with some entertainment and gave me peace of mind . I do not use the baby leash constantly. I only bring the baby leash out when it's needed and when I know that we will be in a busy environment or a new place. I feel safe in the knowledge that if she's attached to me, it will make us both feel more secure. So, the next time you, or others, want to glare at me for having my child on a baby leash. Remember that I love her enough to put her on one!
