Select a good Baby Alarm

When I was a baby, the only thing my parents used, to keep track of me in my crib were their own ears! I grew up in the days way before the arrival of all these electronic baby gadgets and baby alarms, now available to help keep tabs on the baby. It is a great thing that mums and dads can now rest assured that the babies welfare is being so well protected by a good baby alarm system. It would have seemed as bizarre, to my parents, as would a nanny spy cam, to keep a visual track, of what I was doing in my crib.

My Mom and Dad would have to stay within hearing range of my room and when they heard me cry out, they would then come in and check on me. They did not have the luxury of a baby alarm sounding, whenever I cried, like the moms and dads  raising kids have today. It is now possible to monitor the baby from quite some distance away, while parents can feel, very well assured, that the little ones needs are being carefully attended to and listened to!

The various and varied collection of “baby monitoring devices”, began with a simple idea. People were seeking a good way to monitor their babies when they were some distance away, like downstairs or in the kitchen, while the baby was upstairs asleep in its crib. So the simple device known as the ‘baby monitor’ was born. This is the least complex of all of the monitoring devices. It’s a simple one-way speaker system, allowing you to hear exactly what is going on in the nursery or baby’s room, from anywhere in the house. This can be via a hard wired speaker system, or more likely, these days, through a wireless baby alarm, which allows the flexibility of movement from one room to anther by moms & dads on the receiving station.

Next in complexity for monitoring devices are the baby cams, baby camera’s) which allow you to not only hear, but also see, what’s going on in your baby’s room.

The Last device is the baby alarm which actively and actually monitors the baby for sound and which then sets off an audible alert for parents when the baby makes any kind of noise. Such is the monitoring ability of such devices that I’ve heard of parents using this kind of baby alarm to listen to newborns, this is so sensitive that it goes off if the baby stops breathing. for any amount of time. This is usually a reassuring solution for parents who fear that their child could be at risk of the dreadful ‘sudden infant death syndrome’.

Though the baby alarm can still not be demonstrated to be effective in avoiding sudden infant death, or cot death and some babies will still die from this unknown epidemic every year. The baby alarm mentioned in this case, would at least provide the parents the peace of mind of knowing that they’re doing something, even though it may not be proved as being all that effective, in avoiding such a tragedy.

Some advice I received, when my son was small, was for us to just turn off the monitor and not worry so much, because babies will definitely let us know if they needed us. Babies can sometimes be very noisy, especially while they sleep, so it is not always a good idea to wake up for every little grunt or whimper through the night. You can be assured that ear piercing cries that could travel through sheetrock will rapidly get your attention and once you realize this, it makes buying a baby alarm or other type of expensive monitoring device sometime seem a little silly.

Parents being parents, especially inexperienced first time parents, will almost certainly use this modern technology for the re-assurance a good baby monitoring system can bring!
