Colic what is it ?

Colic is a pain, a really bad pain for a child, usually affecting younger babies Parents who have experienced the babies extreme discomfort know just how bad it can be.

Colic really hurts. The parent of the affected child will tell you that there is almost no pain like it - Both the physical and the vocal response to this problem can be highly tiring and its makes it very difficult the babies parents to stand by and cope with their babies often extreme discomfort.

What's going on in there?

It’s often question asked by distressed parents - what the hell is going on. inside my baby? When the problem arises, which obviously upsets Baby and Parents, as it’s so common, many health visitors think that parents should be aware of the nature of this affliction and should therefore know how to deal with it. Often they assume that colic and baby suffering from colic, is just another fact of life, to be endured and something they will eventually grow out of.

Does anybody know the cause of colic?

The simple fact is: NOBODY knows exactly what colic is!

It was thought for a time to be an intestinal problem, caused probably by trapped wind, or gas. There are other theories that go against this being the sole cause and the regularity, sometime to the hour, of day or night makes all of the theories, just that,… theories!

One thing that even the medical profession agree on, about the cause of such pain is that it causes the unfortunate baby two or three hours of crying a day, such periods often for more than three or four days a week.

Do other babies suffer in this way?

You may not be surprised to know that your baby isn’t suffering alone either:  It is estimated that between 20%  and 25% of children, both Boys and Girls, suffer colic as infants. Usually in the first few months of life.

Is there  any help I can give my baby?

The answer, is definitely YES !

Apart from the application of that trusty old remedy, ‘gripewater’: which is shall we say, an ‘interestingly flavored’ product; which was the only known ‘cure’, as Grandmothers and Mothers can testify, there was, for many years just no other known ‘cure’ for this elusive and painful problem?...... Until  now?
